Is there a particular issue that motivates you? If so, what?I am running for this office because I care about McHenry County. I grew up here and am now raising my family here. I am committed to the long term well being of this region. I have been very involved with the business community and I want to see this county offer more to the people that live here in the area of quality employment. We need to make sure we are doing the right things to help businesses that offer living wage jobs not only stay here, but move here.If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of any important initiatives you've led. If you are a challenger, what would you bring to the board and what would your priority be?I would bring my youth to the board and a much needed perspective. I understand what young families are looking for in a community. I help people create a realistic vision of their future as a financial advisor and I can use that to help create a realistic vision of McHenry County. Our home values rely on bringing in the next generation of homeowners to this community. The county can help businesses attract these young workers to this area to expand our economy and tax base.Describe your position regarding the balance between county spending and revenues as it exists today, then describe the chief threats you see looming in the future and how the county should deal with them. In particular in the suburbs, President Preckwinkle has set a goal of eliminating unincorporated areas from county oversight. Do you agree with this approach? If so, how should the county go about it?McHenry County has had a balanced budget, which I fully support. However this is being accomplished by dipping into reserve funds to offset the shortfall in revenues. While the County has been proactive in the reduction of staff members, cutting approximately 170 positions since 2011, there's still a shortfall in revenues to accomplish a balanced budget without utilizing reserve funds. The 2016 Budget Transmittal Letter states that the operating reserve is slightly lower than the six months identified in the Budget Policy. I support keeping property taxes as low as possible, but I believe that reserve funds should be maintained. How do you rate the county government on transparency and the public's access to records? If you consider it adequate, please explain why. If you think improvements are needed, please describe them and why they are important.I believe that McHenry County has done a great job at addressing transparency and access to records. If you get on the County Website I don't think you would have many complaints. However, there is always room for improvement and I would be in support of making things easier for the public to access. Please list any elected office you have ever run for and what the result of that election was. Have you ever been appointed to fill an unexpired term?I was appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Crystal Lake City Council in December 2012. I immediately had to run to maintain that seat in the April 2013 Primary election. I won one of three seats that five candidates were seeking to fill. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? The aging infrastructure is very important. We need to have accessibility for people to live and work here. Projects need to be prioritized and planned and budgeted to keep McHenry County relevant in the future. I also believe that if we are to grow, it needs to be well thought out and planned for in order to make the most of our limited funds. We need to be able to attract companies that employ many people and pay good wages. Currently our largest employers are in the public sector. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.I am most inspired by local leader, Bob Blazier. He is always positive and motivating to everyone he comes across. What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Treat others as you wish to be treated. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Nothing. I try not to live with regret. I have learned from all my past experiences and they have shaped who I am today. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Early on my favorite subject was Math and later History. These subjects help a great deal in building financial plans. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Don't wait for things to happen, make things happen.
