'Fairness and Equity through Just Culture' topic for business workshop
"Fairness and Equity through Just Culture," a business workshop, will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Aurora University's Orchard Center, 2245 Sequoia Drive, Aurora. The public is invited. Admission is free. Refreshments and networking are from 7:30 to 8 a.m.
The guest speaker will be Janelle Crowley, chief human resources officer, affirmative action and Title IX coordinator, University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Crowley said her program will offer a standardized investigation process, using a just-culture model, that focuses on three duties balanced against organizational and individual values.
"A just culture," Crowley said, "is a result as much as it is a set of management skills and tools that make it possible.
"Just culture transforms an environment from the inside out.
"Everyone gets on the same page, learns the organization's values and how employees are expected to make choices that protect them.
"Everyone is an active part of the plan and the solutions."
Crowley's background includes experience in municipal/county government and higher education organizations.
She served as chief human resources officer for Elgin Community College; director of human resources for city of Woodstock and president of McHenry County Sheriff's Merit Commission.
Her honors include the "Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award" by the National Center for Women and Policing, Los Angeles; Doc Wilson award, for vision and training through the University of Illinois; and Woman of the Year, Woodstock Women's Business and Professional Association.
