Paper box factory plans expansion in Michigan City

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) - A paper box factory that makes cotton-filled jewelry boxes for major retailers plans to expand its production line in Michigan City.

Michigan City Paper Box Co. will invest more than $353,000 in its LaPorte County facility over the next few months, after investing more than $700,000 in two new automated lines four years ago. The (Munster) Times (http://bit.ly/1YU2w6x ) reports that the company will add new technology and maintain 16 jobs at the plant.

The Michigan City Council approved a tax break for the company earlier this month.

Michigan City Paper Box Co. has been family-owned since 1904. It makes packages for Wal-Mart, Gap, K-Mart, Banana Republic, Kohl's, Coldwater Creek and Lord and Taylor.
