Families ring in the new year at Elk Grove Pavilion

Children and their parents laughed and danced Thursday afternoon as they ran around the Elk Grove Village Pavilion during the 10th annual Family New Year's Eve Party.

More than 900 people were expected at the celebration to play games, dance to a rockin' DJ, ride a carousel, swim in the pool and skate on an iceless indoor rink.

Treat bags with silly glasses, a noisemaker and a New Year's necklace were given to everyone who entered, and every family received a 2016 park district calendar.

The event culminated with the Elk Grove Park District's biggest balloon drop to ring in 2016.

The party also served as an official kickoff for the park district's 50th anniversary celebration.
