Snowmobile training class on Jan. 9

The Lake County Forest Preserve District is offering a free snow mobile training class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the operations and public safety facility, 19808 W. Grand Ave., Lake Villa. Registration is required at www.lcfpd.org/events or (847) 968-3404. Those completing the eight hours of instruction and final exam will receive a state of Illinois Certificate of Competency, which allows those from 12 to 16 years old to operate a snowmobile on their own. Eleven-year-old students will receive their certificate on their 12th birthday. No one under 10 years of age may operate a snowmobile, but those from 10 to 12 can operate one under a parent's or guardian's direct control.
