Police: South Elgin woman stabbed man 12 times with kitchen scissors

A South Elgin woman is in jail after being accused of stabbing a man 12 times with kitchen scissors, police said Tuesday.

Heather Baltes, 24, of the 700 block of Dean Drive, was being held on $250,000 bail in Kane County jail after she was arrested Sunday night and charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder with intent to kill, one count of aggravated battery with great bodily harm, and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, police said in a news release.

The South Elgin Police Department and the South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District responded to a call at about 7:16 p.m. Sunday for a report of a stabbing in progress. Baltes initially ran away while carrying kitchen scissors, police said.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries, and was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital where he was treated for wounds to his head, neck and back, police said.

The investigation revealed Baltes got into an argument and then stabbed him.
