Woman dies after driving into creek in Elgin

A woman died Monday morning after her sport utility vehicle crashed into Tyler Creek in Elgin, police said.

Elgin police and fire officials responded at about 7:37 a.m. to a report of a single vehicle crash in the area of Garden Crescent Drive and Tivoli Place, Cmdr. Ana Lalley said in a news release.

A 2015 Toyota SUV was traveling on Garden Crescent Drive, left the roadway and ended up in the water, police said. The woman was found dead inside the vehicle, which was partially submerged and was towed from the creek, Lalley said.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives. The Kane County coroner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The area of Garden Crescent Drive and Tivoli Place was closed for about three hours.

Elgin police's traffic unit and major investigations division are investigating.
