$100 to help sister maintain her independence

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Barbara Tweed of Mundelein.

Here is an excerpt of her story:

"My elderly sister lives alone in Phoenix and her only income is Social Security (poverty level). Her husband died several years ago, leaving her in dire straits.

"She recently lost vision in one eye and is homebound. Due to osteoporosis, she's fallen many times, requiring hip and shoulder surgeries, and is in pain daily.

"She's very determined to keep her independence and remain in her home, but admits it's a struggle to meet her financial responsibilities. This $100 gift would be the same to her as receiving one for $1,000. "

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
