Atheist banner cut down in Arlington Heights

A Chicago Coalition of Reason banner near Arlington Heights' Christmas display at North School Park on the 400 block of North Arlington Heights Road was taken down Tuesday night by vandals who severed the zip ties holding it up.

Tom Cara, president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation's Metropolitan Chicago Chapter, said there was no damage to the banner itself, which was soon returned to display. Cara said his group is a member of the Chicago Coalition of Reason and put the banner up on the coalition's behalf. He added that incidents of vandalism have been common for banners of both organizations near the Arlington Heights holiday display in past years.
