No place for religion in schools
I couldn't agree more with Debbie Beverly's Nov. 17th letter.
The newspaper article was shocking.
As a Christian and a Catholic I have no problem with learning about others' religions. If we all did it, it might make a more peaceful and understanding world.
However, I do have a major problem with using a public school facility, precious instructional time and monitoring time by a public school employee to instruct in the meanings of a specific religion (Muslim in this instance).
If we were to substitute a different religion (Judaism, Christianity etc.) there would have been a terrible backlash i.e. the protest about a Naperville team kneeling before a game. We often hear about saying Merry Christmas and playing Christmas carols offends some people.
Well the above has offended me and countless others. If one wishes to find out about other religious traditions do so on your own time and do not ask my taxes to pay for it.
