Bartlett Library to host Renovation Celebration

The Bartlett Public Library District is hosting a Renovation Celebration on Saturday, Jan. 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Renovation Celebration will begin with opening remarks and a ribbon cutting ceremony. Following that, attendees will be able to walk through the new areas of the Bartlett Library and enjoy different food and beverages, while participating in games and learning about the newly renovated areas.

The new additions the event will highlight are the new materials section, teen area, conference rooms, art room, quiet room and study rooms. The Bartlett Library also put in a few new furniture items and some shelving units in addition to the previous furniture and shelves they had on hand. Their Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system was updated as well in order for patrons to be more comfortable.

The new additions came about due to an extensive survey of the Bartlett community that was conducted to determine the needs of library users.

The survey results showed that the community requested more meeting room and study room space, as well as for the Bartlett Library to carry more quantities of popular materials, including books, movies and music.

In order to provide the patrons with what they wanted, the Bartlett Library has practiced conservative spending for the past six to eight fiscal years in order to save the most amount of money they could to put towards the renovations. Through only using finances from their general and special reserve funds, the Bartlett Library has provided the space the patrons wanted without having to raise additional taxes.

When the construction originally began, Nance believed they would need to close the Library for a couple of days. However, due to the hard work and resilience of the staff, the Bartlett Library was able to remain open for the patrons to use.

"The staff has worked very hard during the construction," Nance said. "They have moved countless items, and still kept everything organized so patrons were able to locate them. The renovation would have taken much longer if it weren't for all of their help. I cannot stress how grateful I am for the effort they put into this process."

The Bartlett Public Library District is located at 800 S. Bartlett Rd., Bartlett, IL 60103. So, head over to check out the new spaces and enjoy some food, games and prizes.
