Glenbard North overcomes Wheaton Academy

Glenbard North overcame a big Wheaton Academy run and a 1-point deficit after three quarters to win 64-57 at Glenbard West's Holiday Classic.

Wheaton Academy (3-6) committed 16 first-half turnovers and trailed 29-19 at halftime before a 16-2 run to close out the third quarter created a 39-38 lead entering the fourth.

Myles Moore's 3-pointer righted the ship for Glenbard North (2-6). The Panthers then spread the floor, found cutters and made 10 of 14 free throws in the last 1:35.

"That was a big way to boost our confidence," Moore said of the first of his two fourth-quarter 3s. He finished with 23 points, tying Panthers guard Nick LaVere for team honors. The Panthers committed 6 turnovers to Wheaton Academy's 22.

"The biggest thing with us is we went down 1 at the end of the third, going into the fourth, and I thought we handled that pretty well, composure-wise," said Glenbard North coach Joe Larson.

For the first 16 minutes Glenbard North owned the offensive boards and was quicker to the ball. The tables turned, typified by J.D. Gunn's third-chance putback in the waning seconds of the third quarter.

"It just comes down to we've got to play for 32 minutes," said Warriors coach David Osborn, whose club was led by Thomas Blum with 16 points, Gunn with 13 and Anthony Polinski with 10.

"I know that might sound cliché, but we can't come out and just decide to turn it on the second half - or we can't let other teams dictate."
