Religious understanding is a two-way street

I couldn't agree more with the comments of Debbie Beverly from Schaumburg on the non-Muslim students "Walk a Mile in Her Hijab" (Sharing the experience to promote understanding) article.

Why is it that I have to understand the Muslim religion? Quite frankly, I don't want to. I'd love to see a front-page article in the Daily Herald on Muslims celebrating Christmas so that they can experience my Christian beliefs and why I celebrate the birth of Christ.

As Ms. Beverly suggests, doing so at the school would have undoubtedly created a firestorm of controversy from parents and other groups.

I'm sure my comments will be perceived by some as insensitive and uncaring. I'm tired of political correctness and having this issue constantly shoved in my face.

Muslims want understanding? It's a two-way street. Merry Christmas
