Right-to-Work decision bows to Tea Party

Open letter to Lincolnshire mayor and trustees:

A while ago I received a survey to elicit ideas for developing a cohesive brand for Lincolnshire. I assume this was based on an interest in our reputation.

The brand now being promoted by the village is Lincolnshire - A Tea Party Town. Right-to-Work is a Tea Party issue which the people of Illinois have rejected. It is sneaky of Gov. Rauner to try to circumvent the citizens' wishes by trying to get Right-to-Work for individual towns in Illinois. It was equally sneaky that Lincolnshire did not post the agenda for the Dec. 14 meeting at which they made Lincolnshire a Right-to-Work town enough in advance to allow citizen input.

One of the speakers suggested that allowing Lincolnshire employers to pay their workers less would help the Illinois financial problem. How will workers paying less in payroll taxes to Illinois help?

Labor law is complicated. Do you think you are qualified to get involved? Why would you want to add another layer of government interference into the contractual agreements between employers and their employees?

Because I know that you are not interested in my opinion, I am taking the only action available to me to express my disapproval, I don't do business in Right-to-Work towns. Therefore I will not shop, dine or use service providers in Lincolnshire.

Fortunately, there are many neighboring towns that had the sense to reject the Rauner/Tea Party agenda.
