Take a guided hike at LeRoy Oakes to find signs of native wildlife

Come out to LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve for a guided hike to look for signs of animals, from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28. At this free, Forest Preserve District of Kane County nature program, participants will learn about the habits and behaviors of native wildlife by the signs they leave.

The "Tracks and Trails" program will help participants understand that every hike - be it a backyard stroll, or an expedition through one of the forest preserves - is packed with excitement and organic activity. The animals that exist all around us may not always be in plain sight, but they leave behind a myriad fascinating clues to discover.

Participants will likely encounter the footprints of mammals such as deer, coyote, squirrel, etc., as well as see signs of deer browse, scat, and tree markings. There's no way to know exactly what you'll come across, but that is part of the fun.

Advance registration is required. Call (630) 444-3190 or email programs@kaneforest.com to register. LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve is at 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles. Visit www.kaneforest.com.
