Satisfying wins for Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg

Rolling Meadows coach Kevin Katovich had been pleased with his team's play of late, despite the lack of victories.

Friday's result confirmed his position, as the Mustangs produced by far their best result of the season.

Getting balanced scoring and a stingy defensive effort, host Rolling Meadows topped Wheeling 53-27 for its first win of the year.

Jared Murphy and Jack Schoessling both scored 14 points and Matt Wojcik contributed 11 for Meadows (1-8 overall, 1-2 Mid-Suburban east). Schoessling had a pair of 3-pointers.

The top scorer for Wheeling (3-7, 0-3) was Nick Janulis with 8 points.

Schaumburg 46, Barrington 39: The visiting Saxons got their first MSL West win and their first road victory of the season on the same night in a triumph at Barrington.

Senior guard Jason Schoo had a game-high 16 points, while Aaron Kline had 14 and Kameron Powell 6 for the Saxons.

“It was a great game — both teams played extremely hard,” said Saxons coach Wade Heisler.

Ben Weber led Barrington with 13 points and Jackson Perkins had 10. The Saxons (2-7, 1-3) held the Broncos' top scorer, Will Reinhard, to 7 points.

For Heisler, it was a case of clear progress for his team, which has been close in many of its contests before coming up short.

“I thought we really showed some toughness,” he said. “It's the kind of game that can give us some momentum and help this group turn the corner.”

Palatine 53, Hoffman Estates 46: The visiting Pirates got 9 points from both Matt Ulrich and Chris Refka to come away with a victory in MSL West action.

The Pirates improved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the West while Hoffman Estates dropped to 3-7 and 0-3.
