Hopkins hits 1,000-point milestone in Fremd's victory

Add another 1,000-point scorer in Mid-Suburban League girls basketball.

Fremd senior Bryana Hopkins reached the milestone on Friday night in Palatine as she scored a game-high 16 points in the Vikings' 61-14 triumph over Conant.

Just one week earlier, BG's Maddie Welter reached a 1,000 points.

"I am very proud of Bry," said Fremd girls basketball coach Dave Yates. "She has worked very hard at her game and this is just one of many accomplishments she has achieved her career."

Hopkins, a Northwestern recruit, also collected 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals on Friday.

"Bry is a different kid on the court and different player from last year," Yates added. "She has really stepped up this season."

Fremd improved to 12-0 and 3-0 in the Mid-Suburban West.

Also scoring in double figures was Amanda McCartney (12 points), who converted four 3-pointers.

Other leaders were Erin Lenahan (4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists), Grace Tworek (9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Brianna Lewis (7 points, 3 assists).

"I was very pleased with our start," Yates said. "We took control of the game early and played a very good first half. We did a very good job knowing where Jorie Wachal was and limiting her looks."

Senior Karlie Heneghan led Conant (3-8, 0-3) with 9 points.

Rolling Meadows 44, Wheeling 33: Junior Kyra Spiwak scored a game-high 19 points while Morgan Campagna added 10 for visiting Meadows (9-3, 3-0) in the MSL East contest.

"We received really important minutes off the bench from Clare Preissing, Meghan Slowik and Melissa Spiwak (8 points)," said Mustangs coach Ryan Kirkorsky. "They all made big plays for us down the stretch."

Wheeling (3-7, 0-3) was led by Nansy Velev (14 points), Melissa Claver (8) and Coco Yoshino (6).

Schaumburg 51, Barrington 35: Paige Alt (11 point), Mallory Gerber (11 points), Laura O'Connell (10) and Gina D'Orazio (8), who had a pair of 3-pointers, led host Schaumburg (6-5, 3-0) to the MSL West victory.

Kelly Katis (10 points, two 3-pointers), Abigail Elo (9 points, three 2-pointers), Auri Grayson (7) and Megan Talbot (6) led Barrington (4-6, 2-1).

Prospect 38, Elk Grove 33: Senior Angela Roman (8 points) and junior Kendra Gancrarz (6) led a balanced attack for visiting Prospect (7-6, 1-2) in the MSL East contest.

Top rebounders for the Knights were Maggie Determann (6), Eileen Donohue (4), Clare O'Carroll (4) and Olivia Sykes (3), Gancarz (2) and Brenda Kendziera (2).

Kendziera also had 3 assists and O'Carroll 2 while Gancarz had 4 steals.

Elk Grove (2-9, 0-3) was led by Sarah Pauscher (8 points) and Alex Masnica (5).

Maine West 56, Glenbrook North 39: Maine West improved to 9-4 and 4-0 in the CSL North as Liz Sanchez (11 points), Jordan Hart (10 points, 2 rebounds), Rachel Kent (9 points, 9 steals) and Allison Pearson (7) led the way.

Sanchez had three 3-pointers and teammate Monica Liwag added one.
