Watch the race to the moon at Center Space Center

Three … two … one … BLAST OFF! on exciting and educational journey with teams from around the globe racing to become the first to land a robotic spacecraft on the Moon's surface. "Back To The Moon For Good" headlines a list of opportunities to take in a show this holiday season at the Cernan Earth and Space Center on Triton College's River Grove campus.

"Back To The Moon For Good" is a visually stunning and dramatic Fulldome program providing an inside look at the modern-day space race, where teams of scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs are competing for the $30 million Google Lunar XPRIZE. The unprecedented competition is designed to challenge and inspire a new generation of minds to develop low-cost methods of robotic space exploration.

Narrated by award-winning actor Tim Allen, "Back To The Moon For Good" introduces audiences of all ages to the lunar missions of the 1960s and 70s, what they taught us about Earth's nearest neighbor in space, and presents one possible scenario for our future on the Moon.

Showings of "Back To The Moon For Good" are Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., through Dec. 27. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 2 to 12 and senior citizens 55 and older. Children age 2 and younger and Triton College students with a current semester ID get in free.

Winter Wonderlight

Get in the holiday spirit with 'Winter Wonderlight.' This holly-jolly holiday themed laser light show features images created with brilliant laser light set to some classic holiday tunes by some of your favorite artists. You can catch 'Winter Wonderlight' Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. through Dec. 27. The all-ages show features the music of the Beach Boys, U2, Madonna and more.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 2 to 12 and senior citizens 55 and over. Children under 2 and Triton College students with a current semester ID are free.

Located on the campus of Triton College in River Grove, the Cernan Earth and Space Center houses a 93-seat dome theater equipped with a Konica-Minolta Super Mediaglobe2 Fulldome digital projector. Programs feature astronomy and space exploration as well as other sciences, history, culture, music and more. The Cernan Center includes a Space Hall and Star Store gift shop and is open seven days a week. The Cernan Center will be closed, Dec. 24-25, and Dec. 28 through Jan. 1 for the winter holidays.
