Police make second prostitution arrest at Fox Lake spa

Authorities say they have made a prostitution arrest for the second time this year at a Fox Lake spa.

Fox Lake police and the Lake County Gang Task Force combined on the investigation of Lake Spa, 31 Town Center Lane, authorities announced Thursday. Police said the probe that began Tuesday led to the arrest that day of spa worker LiYun Liu, 48, of the 200 block of 24th Street in Chicago.

Liu offered to perform a sexual act on an undercover detective in exchange for money, police said. She was charged with one count of misdemeanor prostitution and is to appear in Lake County circuit court Jan. 21.

Fox Lake Mayor Donny Schmit issued a statement Thursday saying he asked the Lake County Gang Task Force to investigate activities at Lake Spa. He expressed satisfaction with the latest arrest.

"I'm proud of the strong working relationship the village of Fox Lake has established with the Lake County sheriff's office, especially over the past several months," Schmit said. "This is a long-term affiliation Fox Lake intends on maintaining."

Fox Lake police made the first arrest this year at Lake Spa on June 29. Yan Jiang, 50, of the 15400 block of Route 59, Plainfield, was accused of operating an illegal massage parlor after offering to perform a sexual act on an undercover detective for money, according to authorities.

Village officials are expected to start a process to revoke Lake Spa's business license.

Fox Lake is the latest town to join the Lake County Gang Task Force, officials said. Operated by the sheriff's office, the task force is made up of local, county and federal agencies.
