Burlington Central announces Hall of Fame inductees

The Burlington Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame has announced its 2016 inductees, a group that includes eight former star athletes from the school as well as two teams.

The 2016 induction ceremony and banquet will be held Sunday, April 10 at 6 p.m. at Elgin Community College.

Those to be inducted include:

•Shane Burke - Burke is a 2010 graduate who is being inducted for wrestling. He was a four-time sectional qualifier, a state qualifier and holds the program's career record for wins with 127. He was also a two-time national qualifier as a member of Team Illinois.

•Josh Gminski - A 2005 graduate, Gminski was the Daily Herald's Fox Valley Male Athlete of the Year for 2004-05. A multisport athlete, he played varsity football all four years, helping the Rockets to a 32-10 record and four-straight playoff appearances. He was also a two-time state qualifier in wrestling as well as a state qualifier in the shot put. He went on to play football at the Air Force Academy.

•Stephanie Holthus - One of the most decorated volleyball players in school history, Holthus led the Rockets to a Class 3A state runner-up finish in 2008, her junior year. The 2009 Honorary Captain of the Daily Herald's All-Area team, she went on to an even bigger career at Northwestern where she became the Wildcats' all-time kills leader (1,797) and was named all-Big Ten three straight times. She was also a two-time member of the U.S. Junior National team.

•Austin Jarvis - A 2010 graduate, Jarvis is being inducted for baseball. He was the catcher on Central's 2009 sectional finalist team and led the team to a 32-3 record in 2010, when he was named Honorary Captain of the Daily Herald All-Area team. He ranks second in school history in career batting average, hits, doubles, home runs and RBI and first in triples. His 76 career RBI ranked second in IHSA history when he graduated. Jarvis went on to become Bradley University's starting catcher for four years and his junior year was named to the Johnny Bench watch list for the best catchers in Division I baseball.

•Erica Maisto - Recently named the Rockets' head varsity softball coach, this 2008 graduate holds the school's career record for pitching wins (76) and tied the record for wins in a season with 27. She had 547 career strikeouts and only 46 walks and threw 50 career shutouts. Named the Honorary Captain of the Daily Herald's All-Area team her freshman year and the Fox Valley Female Athlete of the Year her senior year, she also played golf for the Rockets before going on to play softball on scholarship at Upper Iowa University.

•Cameron Ostrowski - A 2010 graduate, Ostrowski competed in track and field as well as boys soccer. He finished second at the state finals in the high jump in 2010 before going on to Iowa State University, where he became a three-time all-American and was the 2012 Big 12 Conference champion in the high jump.

•Kayla Oranger - One of the key components to the Rockets' third-place state softball team in 2009, Oranger was a three-time all-state shortstop and was named Honorary Co-Captain of the Daily Herald's All-Area team in 2008. Holds the school record for career hits (212), runs scored (177) and stolen bases (159), all which rank in the top 15 in IHSA history. Oranger went on to a four-year career at Division I Texas-El Paso, where she was twice named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association all-Midwest Region team.

•Molly Turk - The 2009 Honorary Captain of the Daily Herald's All-Area team in volleyball, Turk helped the Rockets to a second-place finish in the 2008 Class 3A state finals when she had over 700 assists for the season as the team's setter. Earned all-state honors as a senior as well as being named honorable mention All-America. Also competed in basketball at Central before going on to a volleyball career at Division I Northern Iowa.

•1952-53 football teams - Also being inducted will be the 1952 and 1952 football teams, each of which went undefeated and won Rainbow Conference championships back when high school football was played as a six-man sport.
