Highwood deputy fire chief guilty

A former deputy fire chief from Highwood was found guilty by a Lake County judge of intentionally falsifying his time cards. Ronald Pieri, 55, faces 2 to 5 years in prison when he's sentenced in front of Judge Victoria Rossetti on Feb. 17, said Cynthia Vargas, spokeswoman for the Lake County State's Attorney's Office. Rossetti found Pieri not guilty Tuesday on charges of theft and official misconduct. Pieri was charged in 2011 after being accused of defrauding Highwood of more than $58,000 by claiming he worked hours he didn't between 2006 and 2010. Pieri has been on unpaid administrative leave since 2013.
