Barb's Precious Rescue and Adoption Center Celebrates First Anniversary

Barb's Precious Rescue and Adoption Center, Palatine, recently celebrated their first anniversary. During this time they have found forever homes for approximately 190 cats.

One thing the many volunteers have learned in the first year is to expect the unexpected. In one instance, a local resident called to indicate they had a litter of kittens crying in their window well, and it appeared the mother cat had deserted them. Owner Barb Weber and a volunteer drove over later that evening to rescue the abandoned animals. They spent the next several weeks hand feeding the adorable kittens.

Another cat that came their way this past year, Zeus, had a damaged leg that had to be amputated. After an appropriate amount of time for healing, and a lot of love, Zeus has made a remarkable recovery. He was adopted by a wonderful loving family, and is undergoing water therapy to help with his strength training. The Adoption Center even has some short video clips of Zeus in his wet suit on their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BarbsRescue.

The Adoption Center is divided into several viewing rooms, based on the age of the cats, and includes everything from kittens, to middle age cats, to older cats. The Center currently has a wide variety of cats, covering most breeds. All cats are provided a full physical, including shots as appropriate, as well as spaying/neutering, on admission to the Center.

The Adoption Center is always looking for additional volunteers, age 16 and older. Those interested in volunteering should fill out the on-line form which may be found on the Center's website: ww.barbspreciousrescue.org. The phone number for the Center is (847) 907-4881.

Donations are always appreciated. The Center is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization with all donations directly assisting their animals. They are a no-kill shelter. Cash donations may be made on-line or in person during viewing/adoption hours. The Center also accepts cat related product donations. Items currently on their wish list include: Beds, washable; Canned cat/kitten food; Dry cat/kitten food; Gerber Baby Food (turkey, chicken); Kitten formula/KMR (liquid or powder); Kitten baby bottles, New toys/catnip toys, Scoopable and unscoopable litter; Training pads; Small blankets; and Kitty condos.

Viewing/Adoption hours are Monday and Wednesday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and on Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM. The Center is located at 313 N. Quentin Road, Palatine, Illinois, 60067. A simple one page Adoption Form is required in advance of adopting a cat. The price per adoption is $150.

Barb Weber, founder of Barb's Precious Rescue and Adoption Center indicated that support from the local community has exceeded expectations. A number of children in the local community have dropped by with donations collected in lieu of birthday gifts. A student from Arlington Heights has made several donations to the shelter this year, the proceeds from her handmade jewelry sales. Several volunteers earned generous donations by running in the 2015 Long Grove Heritage 5K Run and 3K Walk, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer, and Hawthorn Woods in September. Omron Automation - Americas provided a generous donation to repair their air conditioning system this year and excellent service was also provided by Air-Rite Heating and Cooling. The Tap House Grill, Palatine, provided a much appreciated donation from their Craft Beer and Bacon Festival. Culver's, Palatine, allowed Barb's Precious Rescue to set up change collection canisters at the restaurant last Spring. Many other fundraising activities are in the early planning stages for 2016. Anyone interested in sponsoring or working on fundraising activities for Barb's Precious Rescue should contact Jim Dopler at 847-421-7228.
