Learn story behind Dickens Christmas classic

To pay off some debt, Charles Dickens quickly wrote "A Christmas Carol." Little did he know it was destined to become one of the most enduring Christmas stories of all time.

His public readings of the story were hugely popular. Author, historian and performer William Pack tells the story behind the story and recreates a Victorian era magic lantern show of "A Christmas Carol" while reading from the abridged version of this classic story.

In the Tri-Cities, there will be two presentations of "The Essential Christmas Carol." The Batavia Public Library's "Sundays on Stage" program will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at the library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. Seating is limited. Register at www.BataviaPublicLibrary.org or (630) 879-1393, ext. 200.

On Monday, Dec. 14, the program will be presented at 7 p.m. at the Geneva Public Library, 127 James St. To register, visit www.gpld.org.
