Airplane food maker opens new Des Plaines facility

Airline passengers' in-flight meals are now coming from the kitchens of a new $11.4 million, 131,000-square-foot manufacturing and warehouse building that opened this week in Des Plaines.

LSG Sky Chefs, the world's biggest producer of airline food, relocated to 200 E. Touhy Ave. on Des Plaines' southwest side from a processing facility at 201 Eastern Ave. in Bensenville.

The 17-acre Des Plaines location has sat vacant since 2005, when the property was purchased from Dayton Superior, a concrete producer.

International Airport Centers Chicago LLC, the property owner, is leasing the new building to LSG Sky Chefs.
