100-drum circle part of annual Hawthorn Middle School's winter boutique

Ed Gaus, of Bongo Boy Music from Indianapolis, Indiana, conducted the Community Drum Circle event Saturday at Hawthorn Middle School South in Vernon Hills.

The PTO's family programming committee organized the fifth-annual event, and it was held in conjunction with the school's annual winter boutique.

"You don't have to know anything about drumming, there are no wrong rhythms to play," Gaus said. "We play interactive games and fun rhythm activities."

The family-friendly event was geared to people of all ages and experience and featured 100 drums. Two half-hour sessions were held.

Also at the boutique, families had a chance to do holiday shopping for handcrafted items from local artisans and crafters. A bake sale and raffle were also held.
