Cops help kids with their Christmas shopping

Kids and cops came together in the spirit of the season Saturday during the annual Shop With A Cop event at the Meijer store at Schick Road and Gary Avenue in Bloomingdale.

Police officers from throughout the county met the kids at Glen Ellyn Park District's Ackerman Sports Center and then drove them - with squad cars' lights and sirens activated - to the store.

Police gave each child $125 to shop - the money was donated - and uniformed officers helped them make their selections.

Following the shopping, officers helped the children wrap their gifts.

The program has been coordinated for the past two decades by the DuPage County Sheriff's Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 109. Participating children were selected by the sponsoring law enforcement agencies.
