'Buffy' actor pleads guilty in NY after arrest over fight

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - An actor who starred in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" has pleaded guilty to criminal mischief after he was accused of choking his girlfriend in an upstate New York hotel room.

The Albany Times Union reports (http://bit.ly/1XJcI6A ) that Nicholas Brendon pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge Friday in Saratoga Springs.

Police said the 44-year-old Brendon grabbed his girlfriend by the throat, took her keys and tossed her cellphone during a Sept. 30 fight.

Prosecutors say he will not serve jail time in the latest case if he completes drug and alcohol counseling and stays out of trouble for one year. Defense attorney Peter Coseo tells the newspaper his client is working to "get his life back together."

Brendon played Xander on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." He also has appeared on "Criminal Minds."
