Schaumburg duplex fire causes $60,000 in damage

No one was injured in a fire Friday afternoon at a Schaumburg duplex, but the blaze caused $60,000 damage to one of the units.

Schaumburg fire officials said the fire started in the walls of the kitchen on the second floor of the western unit at 1524 Revere Circle, but they are still investigating the cause. Firefighters were alerted at about 1:15 p.m.

Three people were in the unit at the time of the fire but got out safely and called 911, a fire spokeswoman said.

The fire was out in about 20 minutes; the home was left unliveable, and the family is being relocated, officials said.

The attached unit suffered no structural damage, and those residents there were allowed to remain.

In all, about 28 firefighters using two ladder trucks and an engine battled the fire. A Hoffman Estates ambulance also responded to back up Schaumburg emergency workers but was not used.
