Woman pleads guilty to filing false police report on jogging incident

A Lake County woman who claimed to have been attacked while jogging pleaded guilty in court Wednesday to lying to police.

Jessica C. Kramer, 20, of the 23500 block of North Echo Lake Road, was sentenced to one year of supervision after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of attempted disorderly conduct - making a false police report.

Kramer was also sentenced to 50 hours of public service and is required to undergo a mental health evaluation, defense attorney Elliot Pinsel said.

Kramer was charged after Lake County sheriff's deputies were called to the area of West Hillcrest Drive and North Echo Lake Road near Lake Zurich at 3 a.m. Aug. 23, for a report of a woman who had been attacked, authorities said.

Kramer told deputies she was jogging at 2:50 a.m. that day when two males in an older model pickup truck drove up behind her, authorities said. She said the male passenger exited the truck and attempted to forcefully grab her arm, pull her hair and struck her at least twice on the back of the head.

She said she was able to escape from the man and run home.

During the investigation, officials said, Kramer told police she made up the story to get attention from her boyfriend at a time when the two were having relationship problems.

She was released from Lake County jail after posting the required 10 percent of her $10,000 bond.

Had Kramer been found guilty at trial, she could have been sentenced up to one year in jail.
