Marriott Theatre announces casting for limited run 'Spring Awakening'

Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire announced Tuesday its preseason production of "Spring Awakening," the Tony Award-winning musical about adolescent sexuality and despair, will begin its limited run Jan. 14, 2016.

Artistic director Aaron Thielen directs and choreographs the adaptation of Frank Wedekind's late 19th century novel. The musical features Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's rock-infused, Tony-winning score.

A bold, contemporary examination of teen angst, "Spring Awakening" marks a departure from Marriott's typical fare. Its strong language and sexual content make the show suitable for adult audiences only.

"We're using this three-week window in our season as an opportunity to present something outside of our traditional repertoire. From the style of music to the reconfiguration of our unique arena stage, I think we're going to surprise a lot of our regular patrons," said executive producer Terry James in a prepared statement.

Marriott's production stars Patrick Rooney and Eliza Palasz as young lovers Melchior and Wendla, and Ben Barker as their anxious friend, Moritz. Chicago area theater veterans Hollis Resnik and Kevin Gudahl play multiple adult roles.

The show opens Jan. 16, 2016, and runs through Jan. 31, 2016, at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. Tickets are available by calling (847) 634-0200 or going to ticketmaster.com.
