Emmaus House Receives Walmart Community Grant

Emmaus House of Hospitality, Lake Zurich, was recently awarded a $2,500 Wal-Mart Community Grant, courtesy of Wal-Mart, Lake Zurich, and the Wal-Mart Community Grants Team.

Emmaus House is a ministry of hospitality dedicated to those who are struggling with poverty and its uncertainties. They provide resources such as shelter, food and clothing to families and individuals in need, helping them move from crisis to stability.

They strive to eliminate the social causes of poverty that affect the people they serve by raising public awareness and advocating for change.

Emmaus House of Hospitality is a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation and a covenant ministry of St. Francis de Sales Church, Lake Zurich. The charity was founded in 1999. They serve a free community meal Sundays at 5:30 p.m. to residents of Lake County who are in need of a warm meal.

The organization typically serves nearly 175 people on a weekly basis. Local churches, community groups and service organizations host and serve the weekly meals, alongside a core group of weekly volunteers.

Some of the groups who host meals on a regular basis include: St. Peter United Church of Christ; Northwest Family Church; Lake Zurich Lions Club; St. Vincent de Paul; Long Grove Community Church; Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce; The Rotary Club of Lake Zurich; and The Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer, Hawthorn Woods.

Numerous students from neighboring high schools also volunteer on a regular basis.

The organization is always looking for additional groups in the Lake County area who might like to sponsor and serve the Sunday evening meal.
