Volo talk tackles Chicago's wilderness

Author Gavin Van Horn will discuss the Chicago Wilderness from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the "Of Bogs & Books" program at Volo Bog State Natural Area in Ingleside. Van Horn and other authors are spreading the word about the Chicago Wilderness, a network of state parks, natural areas, forest preserves, conservation districts and other avenues that is packed with familiar and rare wildlife. Through storytelling, the writers share essays, poetry, paintings and photos to introduce readers to bison and beavers, coyotes and cranes, water bears and rattlesnakes and more. Adults age 16 and older are welcome. Reservations requested at dnr.volobog@illinois.gov or (815) 344-1294. Volo Bog is on Brandenburg Road west of Route 12 between routes 120 and 134.
