Roma apologizes to fans for 'embarrassing' loss to Barcelona

ROME (AP) - Roma general manager Mauro Baldissoni has apologized to the club's fans for an "embarrassing" 6-1 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League.

Baldissoni told Roma's official radio station that "there's no other word to describe the match against Barcelona but an embarrassment. We're upset about it and I think it's only proper that we apologize to every Roma fan, especially those who traveled to the stadium. They wore the Roma colors with pride at the Camp Nou which is something that the team failed to do."

The defeat Tuesday came a year after Roma was handed an equally embarrassing 7-1 loss at home by Bayern Munich.

Still, Roma is second in Group E and has a chance to advance to the knockout phase by beating BATE Borisov on Dec. 9.
