West Chicago businesswomen host fundraiser for women in need

Nancy Manisco has encountered many women who didn't qualify for government aid, but still needed support financially.

On Dec. 9, Manisco and other members of the recently relaunched West Chicago chapter of the Dynamic Professional Women's Network, or DPWN, are hosting a fundraiser for the network's new foundation, which supports women who fall in that category of need.

"It's not so much a handout, but a hand up," Manisco said of the work of the Angel Foundation.

The foundation was started in October by the greater DPWN, which has chapters in Illinois and Wisconsin. Manisco said the purpose of the foundation will be to help women with needs such as child care, getting an outfit to wear to a job interview or finding affordable housing to rent.

The West Chicago chapter's fundraiser runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club, 2241 N. Neltnor Blvd. in West Chicago. A $5 donation is suggested for admission.

Inside, guests will find several tables featuring holiday gift items from local vendors, including The Closet Boutique, Scentsy, Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Mary Kay Cosmetics, WineShop at Home and more. Aside from doing some shopping, attendees also can enjoy appetizers, raffles, games and prizes.

"It will be a fun evening," Manisco said, adding that there will be plenty of opportunities for networking.

Anyone interested in future networking opportunities is welcome to attend the chapter's meetings on the first and third Tuesday of the month at the country club.

"It's women helping women to grow their business in many different ways, through referrals and coaching and mentoring," Manisco said.

If all goes well, she said, the group hopes to grow to roughly 25 members.
