Bloomington man accused in ex-wife's death released on bond

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - A Bloomington man charged with killing his ex-wife has been released on bond after spending nearly four months behind bars awaiting trial.

Kirk Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty in McLean County Court to a charge of first-degree murder in the November 2014 death of 53-year-old Pamela Zimmerman. The financial planner and accountant was found in her office with several gunshot wounds.

The couple was married for 20 years but divorced in 2012.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph (bit.ly/1TgU5Rm ) reports that Kirk Zimmerman was released from the county jail Tuesday after liquidating a retirement account to pay slightly more than $200,000 on a $2 million bond. He was arrested in July.

His bond was lowered from $5 million in early November after Zimmerman's lawyer said his client had cancer and required medical treatment.
