Schaumburg awarded for rental-home inspections

The village of Schaumburg has won the Illinois Association of Code Enforcement's Agency of the Year Award for 2015, in recognition of the town's new single-family home rental inspection program.

While a prior program inspected only the interior of rented homes on a complaint basis, the new program implemented late last year requires the inspection of the inside and outside of all rented homes every three years. The program also caused the annual license fee for rental homes to increase from $60 to $100.

At the time of the program's implementation late last year, there were about 300 rented single-family homes in Schaumburg.
