Trooper leaves hospital, teen charged in Philadelphia chase

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A state trooper shot during a chaotic car chase with a teen suspect has been released after spending a day in a Philadelphia hospital.

Trooper Patrick Casey tells WPVI-TV that he feels better and is happy to be going home for Thanksgiving.

State police say the 17-year-old charged with shooting him in the shoulder was driving with three passengers when the car was stopped for an expired tag.

Suspect Giovanny Cotto is being held on $3 million bail on charges that include attempted murder.

A brief chase Tuesday morning ended when his car struck a school bus and both vehicles burst into flames.

Cotto's father, Hector Cotto, says his son is "a good kid" who "made a wrong decision."
