2 plead not guilty in Greenfield adult care abuse case
GREENFIELD, Ind. (AP) - A mother and son accused of abusing residents of an unlicensed adult-care facility they operated out of their central Indiana duplex have pleaded not guilty to charges of neglect and criminal recklessness.
The Daily Reporter reports (http://bit.ly/1Oh3yIy ) 64-year-old Shawn Kearns and 35-year-old David Kearns of Greenfield entered the pleas Tuesday in Hancock Circuit Court.
The two agreed to surrender any medical equipment or records they have. Neither will be allowed to operate their business, Kearns Comfort Care, while the case in pending.
The Kearnses were arrested Monday after a hospice nurse had made a complaint. Police say the seven seniors living at the makeshift nursing home were taken to a hospital.
Court records say the Kearnses lived on one side of the duplex and the residents on the other side.
