Courier TV Receives Two Illinois Broadcast Association Silver Dome Awards

Two segments of Courier TV at College of DuPage have received first and third place recognition from the 2015 Illinois Broadcast Association Student Silver Dome Awards.

Both winning segments were entered in the Best TV Newscast category, with first place going to the April 23, 2015 segment (click here to watch), produced by students Amy Miltonberger (Lemont), Matt Miltonberger (Lemont) and Ryan Parkinson (Lombard), and third place to the April 28, 2015 segment (click here to watch), produced by Alex Bruzek (Glen Ellyn), Matt Miltonberger and Parkinson.

Courier TV, which made its debut in spring 2015, is the student-run on-campus television broadcast at COD that covers campus life while providing students with hands-on opportunities to learn about journalism and television production.

"This is a huge success for our new Digital Broadcast Journalism degree and certificate program," said Jennifer Piehl, Professor of Motion Picture/Television. "Courier TV News was the only community college competing with four-year universities. Twelve dedicated students produced this programming and promoted it, resulting in continued popularity growth for both Courier TV and the new program. These students are deserving of the recognition for their hard work and success."

Courier TV delivers content through three programs: "Courier TV News," a news broadcast that covers a wide array of people and events at COD; "At the Mac," a talk show highlighting the McAninch Arts Center; and "Chap Life," a talk show that promotes events and opportunities for students and the community. Students in the "Advanced TV Production" course do everything from on-camera reporting to behind-the-scenes writing, editing and directing.
