MIAC rivals St. John's, St. Thomas to meet in NCAA playoffs

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - St. John's and St. Thomas will add to their long-running rivalry with a bonus matchup.

The Johnnies and the Tommies are preparing for a second-round game on Saturday in the NCAA Division III playoffs on the St. Thomas campus in St. Paul. The two teams have never met in the postseason since their first meeting in 1901.

MIAC champion St. Thomas beat St. John's 35-14 on the road on Sept. 26.

The Johnnies beat Dubuque 51-7 and the Tommies beat LaVerne 57-14 in first-round games.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals on Dec. 5 to face either Thomas More or Wabash.
