The Latest: Mayor wants shooting witnesses to come forward

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Here is the latest information on a shooting late Sunday in a New Orleans park (all times local):

11:31 p.m.

The mayor of New Orleans is calling on people who were in a park where a shootout erupted and wounded 16 people to come forward with information.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu said late Sunday in comments aired by WWL-TV that people need to come forward with information so that police can do their job.

Landrieu was speaking alongside police chief Michael Harrison at the park where the gunfire erupted earlier.

Landrieu said the shooting is not something that can be tolerated in the city.

No one was killed in the Sunday evening shooting that happened as hundreds of people had gathered at a local park. Police say two groups of people in the crowd opened fire on each other before running away.

New Orleans police say 16 people were wounded when two groups of people opened fire on each other as hundreds of people were gathered at a playground for an impromptu music video shoot.

In a statement, the New Orleans police said witnesses told police that both groups involved in the shooting ran off immediately after the gunfire.

Police were already on their way to the Bunny Friend Playground to break up the crowd after learning that a crowd had gathered there.

Ambulances took 10 victims to area hospitals, and police later learned that another six victims had been taken to the hospital in private vehicles.
