College of DuPage 2015 'Speak-Off' Winners

The College of DuPage Speech Communication department recently hosted its annual Speak-Off competition for students in Speech 1100.

Finalists included Faith Lagunas, first place (Hanover Park); Rowan Macwan, second place (Naperville); Victoria Lieggi, third place (Bensenville); Gloria Blass, fourth place (Villa Park); Patrick Feltz, fifth place (Elmhurst); and Anthony Tran, sixth place (Glendale Heights). Each competitor presented an informative speech of seven minutes or less that he or she had presented previously in class. Topics included palm oil, curries, science fiction, generalized anxiety disorder, Legos, and how to do a back flip.

Competitiors represented classes taught by instructors Melissa Barber, Jude Geiger, Neal Heatherly, Joyce Holte, Jillian Howard, Lauren Morgan, Mia Poston, Tabatha Roberts and Mary Wood.

The six finalists received cash prizes provided by the COD Foundation: First place, $100; second place: $75; third place: $50; and fourth to sixth place: $25.
