Special Olympics apine ski coaches needed

Help a local athlete excel at skiing!

The Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association is seeking volunteers to coach its Special Olympics Alpine Ski Team this winter.

Volunteers must have downhill ski experience and the desire to help local athletes train and compete at an intermediate/advanced level.

NISRA provides recreation programs for children adults with disabilities in 13 communities in McHenry County and nearby Cook, Kane and Lake counties.

Practices are held at Wilmot Mountain, Wisconsin, on Wednesdays, Dec. 9 to Jan. 27 (six weeks) from 6 to 8 p.m. (no practice on Dec. 23 or Dec. 30). Transportation will be provided from the NISRA office, 285 Memorial Drive, Crystal Lake or volunteers can meet at Wilmot Mountain.

Volunteers are needed for the six ski practices as well as an area qualifier tournament at Wilmot Mountain on Jan. 6 and the Special Olympics Winter Games, held in Galena Feb. 2-4, 2016.

NISRA requires a background check for all volunteers prior to working with athletes.
