Castro's 27 leads Harvest Christian

Senior Paulina Castro scored 27 points including hitting six 3-pointers Friday night as the Harvest Christian girls basketball team won its third straight game to open the season, downing Freeport 52-39 at the Lions' own Thanksgiving tournament.

Harvest will play for the championship at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against Rockford East.

Alyssa Iverson added 12 points for the Lions in Friday's win.

South Elgin 55, McHenry 47: Bridgette Williams scored 16 points, including 7 in the fourth quarter, as South Elgin won its first game of the season Friday night, defeating McHenry 55-47 at the Dundee-Crown Thanksgiving tournament. Tegan Pompa added 10 points for the Storm (1-1) while Jasmin Duncan and Mackie Kelleher had 6 points each.

Hononegah 75, CL South 59: Annika Sevcik scored 23 points to lead the Gators in this loss at the D-C tournament. Chanel Fanter and Taylor Josefowicz each had 13 points for Crystal Lake South and Michelle Gaede added 9.

St. Charles North 56, Champaign Centennial 14: Claire Jakaitis had 14 points and Samantha Sample added 10 to lead the North Stars (2-0) to a win at the Pontiac tournament.
