Arrested 22-year-old suspected of prepping Stockholm attack

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - A man arrested in Arctic Sweden and suspected of preparing "terrorist" crimes was planning to attack unknown targets in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, a prosecutor said Friday.

Prosecutor Hans Ihrman demanded that the man, Moder Mothama Magid, be jailed while his case is being investigated by Sweden's Security Service. Ihrman didn't specify what might have been targeted in Stockholm.

Magid's citizenship was not mentioned in the court documents obtained by The Associated Press.

The 22-year-old was to appear later Friday at a custody hearing in Stockholm, 600 kilometers (372 miles) south of Boliden, a village in a large, snowy forest where he was arrested late Thursday by local police. He and few others had been questioned, said National Police Commissioner Dan Eliasson.

On Wednesday, Sweden had raised its terror alert to the second-highest level. Hours later, the security service, known as SAPO, said they were searching for a man on "suspicion of preparing to commit terrorist offenses."

The case is not believed to be linked to the deadly Paris attacks.

The latest attack in Stockholm was on Dec. 11, 2010, when an Iraqi-born Swede, Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, detonated two devices, including one that killed himself in central Stockholm.
