District 214 passes tentative 1.8% tax levy increase

The Northwest Suburban High School District 214 school board Thursday approved a tentative tax levy increase of 1.8 percent.

The district plans to levy $213.3 million, according to district documents.

"We believe this is a responsible levy," said Superintendent David Schuler.

School board member Bill Dussling said he was encouraged to see that the district's equalized assessed value for tax year 2014 was actually 1.7 percent higher than 2013 after years of a dropping value. In 2008, the district's EAV was $11.4 billion, but in 2013 it was down to $7.4 billion.

"Hopefully it bottomed out and we can turn that around," Dussling said.

There will be a public hearing on the tax levy before the board votes on its final approval during the Dec. 10 school board meeting at 7 p.m. at the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.
