Scouting Westmont

Westmont

Coach: Mike McCord.

Last year: 13-14, 7-4 third in Interstate Eight Conference, lost to Aurora Christian in the regional final.

Top players: Annie Carlson, sr. G/F; Amanda Prete, sr. G; Eliana O'Malley, sr. G; Sydney Pardy, so. G/F; Kilee Schacht, so. C; Aliana Craft, so., F.

Scouting report: The Sentinels bring back a good amount of experience though on paper they are still young with three seniors, two juniors and eight sophomores on the roster. Two-time all-conference selection Carlson, who enters her fourth year as a starter, leads the way after averaging 12 points a game last winter. Prete, O'Malley, Pardy and Craft also received starts a year ago, and Schacht is over 6-feet tall, helping give Westmont more size than it has had in the past. "I'm pretty encouraged," McCord said. "The thing I'm happiest about, we've got a lot of people who can play. We can go at least 10 deep this year. And this is one of the most athletic teams I've had." With that athleticism the Sentinels will look to create turnovers and play up-tempo. Finishing again in the upper half of the conference is a goal. "A key is how we jell together," McCord said, "and the maturity of our big players and how well they do."
