Suspect arrested in Arlington Heights salon robbery

A judge set bail at $100,000 Thursday for an Arlington Heights man arrested in connection with the Oct. 17 armed robbery of the Palm Beach Tanning Salon on Palatine Road.

Mark E. Silverston, 24, is charged with one count of aggravated robbery after being identified by someone who saw security camera images released on the Arlington Heights Police Department's Twitter account.

An Oct. 31 robbery of the same tanning salon remains under investigation, police said Thursday. Police earlier this month indicated they believed the same person was responsible for both holdups.

According to police, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt entered the tanning salon at 1:35 p.m. Oct. 17 and approached the front counter. After the clerk greeted the man, he lifted his sweatshirt to display a black handgun in his waistband. The man placed his left hand on the gun and said, "Give me all of your money."

Police had two security camera images showing the robber, one taken during the robbery in progress with his hood up, and another without the hood obtained from an adjacent business which the man entered before the holdup.

Silverston is being held in the Cook County jail. He is scheduled to return to court Dec. 10
