World War II Memorial model in Arlington Heights Saturday

St. James Church in Arlington Heights will host the unveiling of the original scale-model of the National World War II Memorial during a special reception on Saturday.

World War II veterans, their families and the public are invited to the free event at noon Saturday at St. James, 820 N. Arlington Heights Road. The event is hosted with Pillars of Honor, Inc., an Illinois nonprofit dedicated to honoring World War II veterans who are unable to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the National World War II Memorial.

The model being unveiled Saturday is the original model used by former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole to present the memorial design to Congress. Pillars of Honor has the model on loan for a limited time from the Smithsonian.
