Mount Prospect man pleads guilty to child porn charges

A 20-year-old Mount Prospect man pleaded guilty Thursday to possessing child pornography Thursday.

In exchange for his guilty plea to the felony, Fernando Devargas was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, court records show.

Cook County Judge Bridget Hughes also ordered Devargas to pay $1,194 in fines.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip in May 2014 that someone was downloading child porn to a specific Internet provider address, according to prosecutors. The center alerted Mount Prospect police, who traced the IP address to Devargas, prosecutors said. Police recovered videos and images of child porn from Devargas' laptop,

Devargas, who had no prior criminal background, received credit for 370 days in custody.
